The HOTA Choir is a massed choir of local voices with a punchy and soulful repertoire of contemporary works under the music direction of Antony Zambolt and a team of guest conductors.
This exciting collaboration provides choirs and singers from all backgrounds a unique opportunity to rehearse contemporary vocal arrangements in a fun and informal environment.
After their debut as part of Concert for the Planet in March 2018 they then lit up the stage at Festival 2018 as part of the Last Chance to Dance event in Surfers Paradise. They also performed with Neil Finn at his sold-out show at the HOTA Outdoor Stage and are looking forward to 2019 being filled with just as many exciting performance opportunities.
Antony’s passion for music has been lifelong. Growing up in Sydney, Antony spent his formative years surrounded by music at home and began formal studies on piano, flute, oboe and voice. He sung in choirs from his earliest schooling years and was the recipient of a scholarship to St Mary’s Cathedral College as a boy chorister. Antony went on to complete a Bachelor of Music Education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he toured internationally as a soloist and chorister with the Sydney Conservatorium Chorale whilst also majoring in piano, under the guidance of Gerard Willems. He studied classical voice with Stephen Yalouris, contemporary voice with Bob Tasman-Smith, music arranging with Tommy Tycho and conducting with Richard Gill. During his studies, Antony developed a love of the musical theatre genre and performed in many productions, including Guys and Dolls, Les Miserables, Tell Me on a Sunday, Barnum and Hair.
Moving to the Gold Coast in 1996, Antony has continued to engage with creative projects as a contemporary vocalist/ keyboard player, school educator, private tutor and repetiteur. He has been the Musical Director, Associate Musical Director and Chorus Master on numerous productions for Opera Australia, Emerging Artists Productions, On the Boards Theatrical Co., 12th Night Theatre, HOTA, Gold Coast Little Theatre, Javeenbah Theatre, and Spotlight Theatrical Co. and relishes each new opportunity that a career in creative arts brings.
