Theatre, dance, opera and film director, Australian Mark Howett goes back to his lighting designer roots for ‘Tosca’.
A senior creative on West End productions: Cabaret and Dreams and Petticoats (Savoy Theatre); Evita (Dominion Theatre); A Country Girl (Apollo Theatre), Three Days in May and A Daughter is a Daughter (Trafalgar Studios); and Sweeney Todd (Royal Opera, Covent Garden); Rites with Bangarra and Australian Ballet (Paris Opera House); and The Secret River with Sydney Theatre Company. In 2017 Mark was the Designer for Seattle Opera’s production of Katya Kabanova.
Mark was Cinematographer Lighting and Vision Designer with The Australian Arts Orchestra’s Kura Tunga, which won the Helpmann Award for Best Presented Concert in 2005. In that year he also directed and co-wrote a short film, Gangu Mama.
Awards for Lighting Design include the Helpmann Award for Cloudstreet in 2002, Greenroom Award The Love of Three Oranges (Opera Australia) 2006, Greenroom Award for Roadkill (The Farm) 2009, Greenroom Award for Secret River (Sydney Theatre Company) 2017.
Mark is a founder of Queensland’s The Farm, a collective of dance and theatre artists which has toured productions to international festivals. He is currently the Artistic Director for Ochre Contemporary Dance Company in Western Australia.
