Associate Professor Peter Luff is Deputy Director (Performance and Engagement) at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, lecturing in Horn and Brass studies. He holds a Bachelor of Music (Performance) from Adelaide University’s Elder Conservatorium and a Master of Music (Conducting) from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.
As a conductor, Peter has extensive experience in a diverse array of performance disciplines which include symphonic repertoire, chamber music, Brass Band and Opera. In 2008 he made his Opera debut conducting Benjamin Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Queensland Conservatorium and in 2014 conducted Leoš Janáček’s Opera The Cunning Little Vixen. Peter has directed many ensembles including the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra brass ensemble, Brisbane Philharmonic, Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Conservatorium Symphony and Opera Orchestras, the Brisbane Excelsior Band and Brisbane Brass.
During his time as a professional Horn player Peter has performed with orchestras and ensembles including the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Australian World Orchestra, Queensland Festival Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Southern Cross Soloists and Ensemble Q.
Peter is in great demand as a Horn teacher, with many of his Horn graduates securing permanent playing positions in national and international professional symphony orchestras.
