Solua Middleton has worked in the media industry for 15 years as a music reviewer, feature film researcher, journalist, photographer, producer and video journalist, as well as self-publishing the Gold Coast-based Indigenous newspaper, Be Counted. Joining ABC as an Open Producer in 2010, she is currently a Senior Features Reporter for ABC Gold Coast.
Solua's work has won numerous awards, including the Henry Mayer Media Prize in 2005 for a story on a community speaking out about child sex abuse (published in the Koori Mail), finalist in the 2012 Human Rights Awards for ""DreamBox"", and winner of the 2012 Queensland Clarion Online Journalism Award for ""Aftermath: Stories of Disaster, Resilience and Recovery"".
In 2016 and 2017, Solua worked as the Senior Producer on the Right Wrongs project, which commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum for the Aboriginal vote. The project was a 2017 finalist in the Queensland Clarion Awards, and winner of the 2018 United Nations’ Day Media Award (Best Online).
Solua is also a mother of two and a proud Torres Strait Islander with roots from Erub (Darnley) Island.
