RIVERSIDE GUITAR ENSEMBLE AND
THE CON ARTISTS FROM QUEENSLAND CONSERVATORIUM GRIFFITH UNIVERSITY
Presented by BLEACH* and Griffith University
Virtuosic sounds fill the air as the 18-piece Riverside Guitar Ensemble and Queensland Conservatorium Jazz Orchestra, The Con Artists, take to the stage at this outdoor concert.
Set amongst lush, oasis-like gardens, get lost in the soulful melodies of this stellar double bill line-up, as the sky transforms into a golden canvas. Led by the inimitable Karin Schaupp and Steve Newcomb.
Purveyors of virtuosic rhythms, Riverside Guitar Ensemble is led by critically acclaimed guitarist Karin Schuapp. The 18-piece band deliver a true celebration of the classical guitar to any stage they grace.
The ensemble has performed extensively at festivals and concerts throughout South-East Queensland and Northern NSW, and most recently they were invited to perform at the Adelaide Guitar Festival. Riverside continues to challenge the boundaries of repertoire for this unique ensemble combination, through their ongoing commissioning and premiering of new works.
Forming at Griffith University back in 1995 conservatorium big band, The Con Artists, are a force within the Australian jazz music scene. Led by Queensland Conservatorium’s Head of Jazz (and former band member) Steve Newcomb, the band continues to be a platform for members to go on and forge successful careers as singers, musicians and composers. Famous alumni of The Con Artists include ARIA award-winners Katie Noonan and Megan Washington.
This event is a music-based work, with sound and visual components throughout. Sight is not essential to be able to engage with the work.
Once through the gates, the event site is relatively flat with a raised stage. During periods of wet weather, the grassed surface can become quite damp and in certain areas, muddy. Patrons using wheelchairs or with mobility challenges are strongly encouraged to read the site information on the general Accessibility page.
Patrons are encouraged to bring their own seating (picnic rug/camp chair etc.) for this event, however a small amount of seating will be on hand and can be provided on request. Amenities within the event area itself (bathrooms, food vendors etc.) will be spread several hundred metres apart within the grassed site. Patrons are encouraged to get in contact with the BLEACH* team prior to the event or make themselves known to the team on the day, who can assist in finding the best possible seating area for their specific needs.
