PULSING HEART
Presented by BLEACH*
This immersive installation gives you the opportunity to channel your inner muso, collaborating alongside complete strangers to craft a beguiling piece of music.
Architecturally designed, this melodic playground is made up of custom-constructed fibreglass seats that activate a portion of a musical score when you sit on them. Only when all the seats are occupied, will the entire track (created by leading Australian musicians like Tom Thum and Kiah Gossner) play, turning the installation into a magical sound garden. HEXADECA is proof of the pure beauty that can be conjured when a community comes together regardless of age, creed or culture.
Pulsing Heart is a South Australian creative studio redefining participatory art through making and touring large scale installations, or as we like to call it “BIG ART”. Our whimsical projects become the beating heart of public spaces, inviting participation and play regardless of ability, age or culture. From town squares and festival arteries to art galleries and music festivals, we believe participatory art should be at everyone’s fingertips.
HEXADECA is an installation that includes tactile, visual and audio content, although not all are required to have a meaningful engagement with the work.
HEXADECA may cause dizziness in those who sit and spin in the cups.
The installation is activated by sitting in a cup-like seat. The seats light up and have the ability to spin. Audience members can manually spin themselves, or have a person assist them in spinning the cup.
The cups sit on a raised platform of approximately 15cm in height. Mobility devices such as wheelchairs and walkers are unlikely to fit on the platform. There are several cups close to the edge of the platform. Patrons who choose to, are welcome to transfer from their mobility device to a cup. Patrons may wish to have a support person to assist them to do this.
We encourage audience members with mobility requirements to get in touch with us before arriving at North Burleigh, or to chat to our Access Team member on the day to discuss options regarding experiencing the work.
Multiple people are able to enjoy HEXADECA at a time, and other participants are in control of the operation of the sound elements of the work.
The work takes place in close proximity to several other sound/music based works, which may result in overlapping sounds.
